St. Lambert of Liège
Baroque era
Church of Holy Lambert
As a bishop St. Lambert is pictured with a mitre and crozier. The sword in his left hand refers to two points in his legend. Attacked by his enemies, he first took a sword to defend himself but then threw it away, deciding that it would be better to gain a martyr's victory by his death than to "lay his holy hands on the blood of the felons." The attackers had no such qualms, and they killed him with a sword of their own.
Below the statue but unrelated to Lambert's legend are a pair of angels holding candles and a crucifixion group with Mary and John.
